Our Home Economics and cookery tutor Frances, teaches the Leaving Cert Class Biology and Home Economics in our intensive one year Leaving Certificate Course. Frances also delivers cookery classes to Options 1 and Options 2 groups, every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings the delicious aroma of baking wafts around the VTOS building! Students learn basic cookery techniques and learn how to bake Christmas Cakes, Puddings and Minced Pies leading up to Christmas, as well as how to make soups, stews, vegetarian cuisine and delicious desserts. The Options group can also study Nutrition and Healthy Options a module which is certified by QQI at Level 3 and worth 5 credits towards a major Level 3 QQI Award.
Last December Computer Group 2 organised a coffee morning in aid of St Vincent de Paul and the cookery students were amongst contributors to the baking which raised a substantial amount for the charity.
Frances also teaches the QQI Level 5 module Safety and Health at Work which provides 10 credits towards the Level 5 Award in Information Processing. This useful module teaches essential work place health and safety legislation. Frances is also responsible for the delivery of QQI Level 5 Work Experience a mandatory module for all QQI Level 5 Awards. Work Experience is a chance to gain insight as well as experience into your chosen field of study. This core module requires that the student find a work placement in the relevant work area. This could be in an office environment for the Information Processing Award or a creative environment for the QQI Award in Art, Craft and Design. Guidance and support will be provided to support learners throughout their work experience. You can download the application form here; VTOS Application Form
