The ability to touch type and be able to use a keyboard to key in data quickly, accurately and efficiently will increase your chances of gaining employment in today’s digital and information based industries. Being able to use Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications will open up job opportunities and here in Kilkenny VTOS we aim to give our students a high level of expertise in all of the applications and still ensure that the basics of touch typing, proofreading and professional presentation of documents are practised and improved upon.
Fiona one of our IT tutors, teaches Word Processing and Text Production at Level 5 and these are modules in the QQI Level 5 Information Processing Award. After completing these modules students will have the ability to produce professional documents to a highly professional standard. Our past participants have secured permanent employment in many local businesses such as State Street Banking, Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board, St Canice’s Credit Union and many more.
Fiona is also a tutor on the Level 5 eBusiness Course and teaches Web Design and The Internet. These two modules offer students the chance to design, create and code websites from scratch. Fiona also teaches Word Processing to QQI Level 6 where students can perfect their knowledge of Microsoft Word to an advanced level. The practical skills honed on this course as well as the organisational skills needed to plan and design websites, produce word processing projects and prepare for exams and skills demonstrations makes our students highly employable, professional and in a position to transfer to 3rd Level Education.
As well as QQI Awards, Fiona along with the other IT tutors teaches computing modules which are certified by the City and Guilds awarding body. Students can leave VTOS with City and Guilds certification as well as QQI certification. Over the years a number of our participants have been awarded Gold medals for excellence in IT. Fiona nominated our most recent Gold medal winner which was awarded to Mary O’Driscoll for her outstanding achievement.
